BACKGROUND
Guu Izakaya is a top-notch sake bar that is known for being "the pioneer of izakaya" in Canada. It was first established in Vancouver, British Columbia and soon gained popularity to spread throughout the big cities such as Toronto.
MY ROLE
As a freelancer and a huge fan of the izakaya, I was commissioned to design a three-fold brochure type lunch menu and single page inserts. Maintaing the roughness of the brush strokes, the traditional Japanese calligraphy has been reversed from black on white to white on black for a modern twist. Splashes of color had been added to reflect the ecstatic atmosphere of the izakaya and the well-known hanging lights have been illustrated on the cover to compliment to their unique interior.
